“I’m not doing enough.”
“I should be working smarter.”
“I wish I accomplished more by now.”
As a recovering workaholic and overachiever, I still face negative mind chatter.
Five years ago, thoughts like this would send me straight into a frenzy that included
Working harder
Working longer
Adding more to my to-do list
Feeling envy for the success of others
Before you put yourself into a tailspin while racing through January with…
New goals
New resolutions
Personal mantras
Your word of the year,
I invite you do these two things, first.
1 – Bring closure to the previous year.
Too often we accomplish one thing and move onto the next without savoring what we completed.
Take a moment to ask yourself these 3 questions:
What have I accomplished in the last 90 days?
Review your calendar, notes app, or to-do lists from the last 90 days.
Recall every accomplishment (big or small) from EVERY area of your life.
Relationships, parenting, self-care, self-development, health….include it all!
What do you notice?
Read your list.
Then, read it again.
How do you feel?
What comes to mind for you?
What’s one thing you notice about everything you accomplished?
What’s ONE THING that had the most influence on your life?
If you could only choose 1 accomplishment,
Which was most relevant?
Did any bring more ease, stronger confidence, greater wisdom, or a closer relationship?
Celebrate what you accomplished!
2 – Start a new trend this year.
When it comes to fashion, travel, home, or technology – I still enjoy reading what’s “out” and what’s “in” at the start of the new year.
But, we were born to create our own trends while blazing our own paths. No need to follow anyone else’s.
Decide ‘what’s out” from last year and “what’s in” for the coming year.
Draw a big line down the center of a sheet of paper.
To the left of the line, list all the things that weigh you down, hold you back, create complication, or no longer bring you joy.
In other words, list all the things that drain you.
These things are “so last-year” and passé.
To the right of the line, list all the things that bring you energy, help you grow, make your heart smile, create peace, trigger laughter, feel comforting, or wrap you in love.
In other words, list all the things that make you come alive.
These things will help you lead a new trend.
Read your list.
Then, read it again.
What stands out to you?
What ONE THING, by eliminating or adding, will make the biggest impact to your life?
Challenge yourself to create one tiny action from that. Try it this week.

Most high performers I know hit the ground running at the start of the new year. If you feel yourself getting trapped in a race against yourself or someone else, remember this –
You are exactly where you are supposed to be at this moment.
You are already growing, achieving, progressing.
You are here to create your own rules for living.
Most importantly, you are enough.
