If you are like I was 7 years ago, your external success hides the agony you feel from racing on overdrive with no sign of relief.
I’m here to share that achieving success doesn’t have to come at the expense of your well-being. It’s not too late to reclaim the joy and freedom your hard work and achievement once promised.
Deciding whether or not you will stop sacrificing yourself for the sake of success might very well be the biggest decision you make in your lifetime.
Once you make it, the rest of the journey unfolds one small step at a time and leads you to a whole new level.
Here are the steps I took to create an unstoppable and joy-filled life:
I changed job roles.
It wasn’t my final destination, but it got me out of a toxic situation. While I didn’t see it at the time, my lateral move to a different role in the same company actually positioned me for the biggest career achievement of my life.
I hired a therapist.
I got to know myself better, understand my current situation, and heal wounds from the past. Today I don’t fall into the same patterns that leave me depleted and hurting.
I began to journal.
I got to process all my thoughts and feelings. I still find valuable insight from reflecting on my day.
I learned to say “no” more often and “sorry” less often.
I created stronger boundaries for myself and strengthened my self-respect while gaining the respect and courtesy from others.
I studied energy healing with a powerful Reiki healer.
I reconnected with my spirit and inner strength. I’ve since become a Reiki Master. I strengthen my own energy by increasing its capacity and flow and help others do the same.
I began to meditate.
Now, I am more grounded. I learned how to relax my mind, listen to my body, and make space for creative thinking.
I declared my values and discovered my purpose.
I trust the decisions I make because this is my filter for choosing what’s in my highest good and living with integrity and meaning.
I created a financial plan.
I created the strategic bridge from one career to the next and stopped using money as an excuse not to change my life.
I stopped believing the lies I told myself.
I faced years of old conditioning, removed what stood in my way, and practiced a new formula for success until it became my way of living.
I took a dance class.
Not only did I have fun expressing myself artistically, I discovered I am actually pretty good.
I certified in two leadership programs that ultimately changed my life.
One taught me to confidently use my strengths every single day. The other taught me to confidently use my voice. Now, I teach others how to do the same.
I dared myself to dream.
I dared myself to dream so big it felt scary and impossible. Then, I took the first smallest step to start the journey. The path has led me to amazing people, places, and experiences I never imagined for myself.
I read thought provoking books and listened to thought provoking podcasts.
When I opened my mind to new ideas, opportunities appeared everywhere. A great thanks to Dev Aujla, Rich Roll, Dr. David R. Hawkins, and many others for enlightening the world and me with your wisdom.
I practiced gratitude.
I learned each day carries joy, how to savor when it happens, and how to become a magnet for it.
I asked for help.
I finally realized that asking for help doesn’t mean I am weak. It means I am human. It’s normal to rely on my supportive community of colleagues, friends, and family. Giving and receiving not only creates more ease, but it also creates more joy.
I stopped work from superseding my life.
Once I prioritized my life before my workplace, everything changed. From the choices I made, the goals I set, and the energy I dedicated, I became CEO of my life. I did offend a few people, but I didn’t get fired. I became a better leader, a better person, and ultimately designed a better career to support my extraordinary life.
An empowered life starts with the way you lead yourself. There’s no better time than now to take the first step.
